What is 'eduroam'?

Eduroam is a TERENA initiative to promote mobility of researchers and European students, offering connectivity 'wifi' on their trips to other institutions that are affiliated. Thus, users of the institutions participating in Eduroam have access to the Internet through wireless networks of the other participating institutions.
Connecting a user to the wireless network host institution (provided that participate in Eduroam) resembles the connection to the wireless network of the institution of origin of the user: username and password required for authentication are the same as those used in the institution, and the only difference is the method of access to the network.
TECNOCAMPUS participates in the Eduroam project, giving access to its own users and users from other institutions participating in Eduroam also means coordinating CSUCA (Consortium of University Services of Catalonia), which makes the technical and administrative link between the different institutions involved in the project.

Access Method

There are several possible methods of authentication to the network eduroam (802.1x standard, access control  web and the access through VPN virtual private networks), TECNOCAMPUS has decided to implement 802.1x The 802.1x authentication is one of the safest standards by which requires a software client to establish session authentication. According TERENA, the more convenient it is precisely because this protocol ensures that only authenticated users can access network resources.
