The Diploma of Specialization in Personal Care in the Surgical Process offers updated, practical training based on scientific evidence to provide safe, efficient and quality care.

The program combines theoretical training with clinical simulation sessions, which allow you to consolidate knowledge and train technical skills in environments very close to healthcare reality. In addition, the internships are carried out at the Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, a public university hospital and reference center for high-complexity healthcare in Catalonia, integrated into the Campus Can Ruti, one of the main biomedical and research environments in the country.

Throughout the program, the student will develop essential skills in surgical nursing: organization of the operating room, instruments, asepsis and sterilization, anesthesia, sutures and pre-, intra- and postoperative care.

The demand for nurses and surgical nurses is currently very high, with high job insertion and professional opportunities that are close to full employment.

In addition, the high specialization in this field also opens the door to highly regarded professional itineraries, such as cardiac perfusion, integration into transplant teams or professional development in sectors such as the pharmaceutical and healthcare technology industry.

General goals

Specific goals

• To develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to take care, in an integral way, of the surgical patient in the phases of the surgical procedure.
• Provide a broad view of all the components of the surgical area and the interrelationship between the different services that make it up.
• Provide knowledge for nursing professionals to master the basics of different surgical procedures: different surgical specialties and care in anaesthesia and resuscitation.
• To inform about technological advances in the field of surgery.
• Develop the knowledge and communication skills that enhance and improve the functions of the multidisciplinary team.
• Provide information on legal and ethical aspects of surgical nursing.
• Help the student to be autonomous in making decisions in situations that pose a risk to the lives of people cared for in the surgical area.

MODULE II - Anesthesia and Resuscitation (3 ECTS)

MODULE IV - Practicum (16 ECTS)

• The internships will take place at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital.

Methodology

The duration of the course is 6 months between January and June.

The weekly dedication time of the students will be 6 face-to-face hours and 2 hours of online dedication plus the autonomous work of personal study. The care internships will last 4 weeks, completing the full day of the assigned shift.

Depending on the module and the objective of each session, the following teaching methodologies will be proposed:

Assessment

To obtain the degree, it will be essential that the participants meet the following requirements:

• Compulsory attendance at 75% of the total class contact hours
• Compulsory attendance at 95% of the total hours of care practices
• Passing the follow-up and final evaluations
• Continuous evaluation of the scheduled sessions
• Delivery and completion of the Final Project of the Diploma of Specialization/Practices

Access requirements:

• Be in possession of a Diploma or Degree in Nursing or have the corresponding approval in the case of students. who do not come from countries in the European Higher Education Area.

Qualifications obtained upon completion of the Specialization Diploma

Upon completion of the program, the student will obtain:

• Diploma of Specialization in Personal Care in the Surgical Process issued by Pompeu Fabra University.
• Immediate Life Support Certificate accredited by the Catalan Resuscitation Council.

To be able to access the Specialization Diploma, you must first apply for admission by presenting the following documentation:

• University degree or receipt 
• DNI or Passport

Once the documentation has been received and assessed, we will send you a letter of admission and once admitted you will be able to start the registration process.

To reserve a place, € 200 must be paid (this amount would only be refunded in the event of cancellation or postponement of the course). This amount will be deducted from the total registration fee.

To take into account if you are an international student:

To be able to access this specialization diploma, you must have a university degree approved in Spain, before starting the specialization diploma.

If the title is from the non-English-speaking EU, remember that a sworn translation of the title in Spanish will be required.

If the degree is not issued in an EU member state, the country's bilateral agreement with the Ministry of Education must be reviewed and, if necessary, it must be legalized (Hague Apostille) in the country where the qualification was issued.

To apply for admission, you do not need to have the degree legalized until the time of enrolment.
