Optimizing Practice: Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy for a Comprehensive Approach

Neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy is the branch of physiotherapy with the highest number of work trips. It is the specialty most practiced by the majority of physiotherapists and it is the specialty with the highest number of annual scientific publications.

Even so, the majority of physiotherapists do not manage to achieve, throughout the various trainings that they will undertake once they graduate, a solid basis of clinical reasoning and differential diagnosis that will allow them to face a visit with a patient with the maximum guarantees of diagnostic quality and therapeutic

This Diploma of Specialization brings together different professionals specializing in their field of action so that they interrelate their knowledge generating a common thread throughout the entire training.

This will allow students to have a global and specific view of each region of the body, allowing them to have all the necessary knowledge in a clear and organized manner to face the therapeutic act with patients with maximum guarantees.

Who is it aimed at?

• Diplomas or Graduates in Physiotherapy or equivalent qualifications from other countries.
• Physiotherapists who have recently graduated or have extensive clinical experience who want to update and deepen their previous knowledge.

General Objectives

Develop a good capacity for clinical reasoning and differential diagnosis in the face of the most prevalent clinical presentations of the neuromusculoskeletal system.

Specific Objectives

• Collect all the essential data during the anamnesis and physical examination, in a coherent and organized manner.
• Recognize the patient's clinical presentation and propose a diagnostic hypothesis.
• Plan the patient's physiotherapeutic approach based on short, medium and long-term goals.
• Decide judiciously which treatments the patient is susceptible to improvement with and learn how to apply them correctly.
• Assess whether the patient's evolution is adequate according to the initial hypothesis and reconsider possible modifications of our intervention.

Outline and Structure of the Specialization Diploma

Module 1 Upper Quadrant Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy (8 ECTS)

• Clinical reasoning and approach to the most prevalent clinical presentations of the cervical spine
• Neurodynamic approach to EESS peripheral neuropathies
• Conservative approach to upper trunk myofascial pain syndrome and EESS
• Clinical reasoning and approach to the most prevalent clinical presentations of the shoulder joint complex
• Clinical reasoning and approach to the most prevalent clinical presentations of the elbow
• Clinical reasoning and approach to the most prevalent clinical presentations of the wrist and hand

Module 2 Lower Quadrant Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy (10 ECTS)

• Conservative approach to lower trunk myofascial pain syndrome and EEII
• Neurodynamic approach to the peripheral neuropathies of EEII
• Clinical reasoning and approach to the most prevalent clinical presentations of the lumbar spine and ASI
• Clinical reasoning and approach to the most prevalent clinical presentations of the hip
• Clinical reasoning and approach to the most prevalent clinical presentations of the knee
• Clinical reasoning and approach to the most prevalent clinical presentations of the ankle and foot

Module 3 Joint manipulations. (2 ECTS)

• Manipulations of the rachis
• Peripheral joint manipulations

Module 4 Physiotherapy and pain. (4 ECTS)

• Approach to the patient with pain
• The patient's psyche and the interview in physiotherapy

Module 5 Clinical cases. (2 ECTS)

• Integration of knowledge acquired on EESS with clinical cases
• Integration of acquired knowledge about EEII with clinical cases

Module 6 Final work. (4 ECTS)

• Specialization Diploma Final Project (TFDE)

Exclusive

• Theoretical and practical classes where the explanation of the most up-to-date content at a scientific level will be combined with the practice among students of all assessment techniques, manual therapy and therapeutic exercise.
• Specialization Diploma Final Thesis (TFDE): bibliographic review.

Assessment

The syllabus is presented in a pedagogical way so that the students acquire the knowledge in a progressive way.

In order to obtain the course certificate, the following requirements must be met:

• Minimum attendance of 85% of face-to-face classes (220h).
• Obtain a minimum grade of 5 in the Final Project of the Diploma of Specialization (TFDE).

Access requirements

• Diplomas or Graduates in Physiotherapy or equivalent qualifications from other countries.

Qualification

• Specialization Diploma Course issued by Pompeu Fabra University

Registration process

To be able to access the Specialization Diploma, you must first apply for admission by presenting the following documentation:

• University degree or receipt
• DNI or Passport

Once the documentation has been received and assessed, we will send you a letter of admission and once admitted you will be able to start the registration process.

To reserve a place, € 200 must be paid (this amount would only be refunded in the event of cancellation or postponement of the course). This amount will be deducted from the total registration fee.

To take into account if you are an international student:

If the title is from the non-English-speaking EU, remember that a sworn translation of the title in Spanish will be required.

If the degree is not issued in an EU member state, the country's bilateral agreement with the Ministry of Education must be reviewed and, if necessary, it must be legalized (Hague Apostille) in the country where the qualification was issued.

To apply for admission, you do not need to have the degree legalized until the time of enrolment.
