What is Start-UPFlama?

It is a program to support the creation of innovative companies co-organized by the UPF and the TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme. It is mainly aimed at students and graduates of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). The aim of the program is to promote entrepreneurship in the university community by harnessing the creativity, initiative and knowledge of the participants, while helping them to create innovative companies that bring wealth and well-being to society.

Who is it for?

Students

Students who are studying for a degree, master's or doctorate at the UPF.

UPF graduates

Graduates of any UPF course during the last four academic years (2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22).

Calendar

The main dates and deadlines of the program are as follows:

  • Registrations: from its opening until October 2, 2022.
  • First phase: will be carried out during the month of October 2022.
  • Second phase: will take place between October 2022 and February 2023.
  • Third phase: will take place between March and November 2023.
 
Phases

Once the presentation of the individual or collective proposal has been validated, the selected projects will receive support to devise their value propositions and conceive their business models following the Business Model Canvas model. This phase will consist of an optional Nanomooc online course to learn how to create a Business Model Canvas and a session in face-to-face workshop format where the effect of the triple impact and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) taught by the UPF and TecnoCampus.

At the end of the first phase, a selection committee will choose up to 14 projects to benefit from the training plan. The selection process will consist of the evaluation of the Business Model Canvas document and, if applicable, an interview. The training plan will consist of two parts:

  • 1st Part “Hands On”: training sessions designed to provide tools, startup methodologies and support to validate and develop the business idea up to the pre-business stage. This training includes key aspects of entrepreneurship in more practical aspects such as pitching, lean startup or MVP design. The sessions will be held at the UPF and one of them will be at the TecnoCampus.
    *Expected dedication: 20 hours, between October and December.
     
  • 2nd Part "Skills in Entrepreneurship": course in skills and tools in entrepreneurship, taught by the UPF Barcelona School of Management (UPF-BSM). Projects can participate with a maximum of 3 participants per team. This training includes theoretical sessions such as financial management, marketing, negotiation techniques or sustainability. The sessions will be held at the UPF
    *Expected dedication: 30 hours, between December and February.

Once the training stage is completed, a specialized jury, through the pitch modality
competition will award up to 4 winning groups that will receive financial support in different categories.
