L'TecnoCampus Polytechnic School (ESUPT) is a center attached to Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). The School gathers the experience of the Polytechnic University School of Mataró (EUPMt), which was attached to the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) for more than 30 years.
In 2009 the EUPMMt was unified with the University School of the Maresme (EUM) which was created by the Maresme County Council, the unification of two centres created the Fundació Tecnocampus Mataró-Maresme. In addition to the legal union, the transfer of both centres to the new facilities that the City Council had set up for the Tecnocampus Science and Innovation Park, which had been designed to accommodate the university centres and innovative companies with high added value, was also brought into effect. Together they would form a hybrid model between the productive world and the university, with the ultimate aim of contributing to the generation of wealth in the region. In 2010, the Tecnocampus Foundation created a third centre, the School of Health Sciences, under the auspices of UPF and integrated into the Tecnocampus Park.
In the 2014/15 academic year, the EUPMM began affiliation to UPF, with the deployment of UPF curricula and the progressive decommissioning of UPC, at which time it changed its name to the current one, Tecnocampus Polytechnic School (ESUPT). To standardise the denominations, the EUM was renamed the School of Social and Business Sciences - Tecnocampus (ESCSET). This achieved a greater homogenisation in the structures of government, management and operation of the three centres.
The government of the Foundation corresponds to a Board of Trustees structured in a triple helix: 1) representation of the public administration (Mataró City Council, Maresme County Council); 2) representation of the University of affiliation; and 3) representation of the social and business environment (employers, unions, companies in the Park and members of the Senate of the Tecnocampus). The Board of Trustees provides support and advice through an advisory body, the Senate, made up of interest groups and made up of business people, teachers, management staff, students and senior representatives of civil society.
The courses that the ESUPT offers are characterised by a high technological component in all degrees, not just the degrees linked to engineering. The degree in audiovisual media and the degree in video game design and production are linked to the branch of social sciences but with a strong technological component. These degrees also have high multidisciplinary characteristics that make them unique. The degree in video game design and production is aimed at developing professional video game designers and producers, with much focus on video game programming and the art in video games. Our video game graduates are prepared to integrate into the video game industry with a variety of professional profiles and then specialise if the work environment so requires. They are also professionals who can be effectively integrated into multidisciplinary work teams, in a manner analogous to audiovisual professionals.
Professionalisation is another characteristic feature of the courses on offer, which is worked on in multiple ways: a) the design of curriculum focused on the requirements of the labour market, b) the mixed teaching staff, made up of permanent teaching and research staff as well as teachers who are active in the business world, c) the degree advisory councils, composed of referents from the business world, d) the talent forums that are organised to connect students and companies, ie) the in-company internships, which, despite not being compulsory, can be part of the academic curriculum and are thus encouraged in each degree. The employment figures are very satisfactory, especially in engineering.
Entrepreneurship is part of the DNA of the Tecnocampus and the School. All ESUPT degrees have compulsory entrepreneurship and business credits, which encourages the comprehensive training of people, not only in those more technical areas linked to their profession, but also in relation to society and the business world where graduates will be inserted as professionals. In particular, entrepreneurship is a highly valued skill because it gives our graduates the ability to create companies, as well as the ability for intrapreneurship, which gives them a comprehensive vision, with creative ability, customer orientation, initiative, proactivity, and so on.
Internationalisation is something the centre is taking very seriously, a strategy shared by the Tecnocampus, channeled through the Office of International Relations. The School promotes student mobility in centres with Sicue, Erasmus + or other established agreements around the world. Internationalisation is also encouraged at home, making it easier for students arriving at the Tecnocampus to have an educational offering of classes in English and Spanish to facilitate their integration.
Innovation and teaching quality is present in the classrooms, based on many initiatives carried out by teachers, with the support of the SQAI (Service for Quality, Learning and Teaching Innovation). Innovative physical spaces, such as the InnoLab, the Business Lab or the laboratories, make the classroom environment more flexible and facilitate more direct, collaborative and enriching interactions between teachers and students.
The School currently offers six degrees in the field of technologies, industrial engineering, audiovisuals and video games, a double degree and two simultaneities:
- Degree in Industrial and Automated Electronic Engineering
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Degree in Engineering in Industrial Organization
- Degree in Management Computer Engineering and Information Systems
- Degree in Video Game Design and Production
- Simultaneity of studies in Industrial and Automatic Electronic Engineering / Mechanical Engineering
In addition to official degrees, the School offers continuing education programs structured in unofficial postgraduate or master's degrees:
- Master in Industry 4.0 (own degree from the Open University of Catalonia)
- Postgraduate diploma in Development and Integration of Cyberphysical Systems
- Postgraduate course in Intelligent Manufacturing and Digital Transformation of the Company
The research areas of the PDI are grouped in six research groups recognized by the Tecnocampus:
- The Signal Processing Group, led by Dr. Marcos Faundez, is a group consolidated by the AGAUR (Agency for the Management of University and Research Grants) since 2009. Its field of research is the recognition of patterns, with special emphasis on the biometric recognition of people by face, hands, voice, online signature and fingerprint.
- The SSIT Group (Sound, Silence, Image and Technology), led by Doctors Daniel Torras and Jordi Roquer, conducts his research on sound and technology from various theoretical and methodological perspectives. It has three main lines: the thought and aesthetics of sound and music, the technological context of enunciation and music, sound and media communication.
- The Resistance Narratives Group, led by Dra. Aina Fernandez, investigates the messages, representations and media practices of the call media life of today's society, in order to analyze those who respond to hegemonic discourses and also to highlight those who oppose them (minorities).
- The Culture and Leisure Technology Group (CTL), led by Dr. Antonio José Planells, was created in order to study this phenomenon in its various humanistic, social, technical and creative manifestations. Thus, it focuses its main area of activity on play as an object of multidisciplinary analysis, either in its digital or analog aspect.
- The Intelligent Manufacturing and Industrial Innovation Group (FIXNUMX)focuses its activity on the study of new industrial models, resulting from the process of digital transformation of the company and economic activity. It is coordinated by Dra. Virginia Espinosa.

The governance of the centre is mainly structured into academic management, head of studies and degree coordinators. The management of the centre is the highest one-person governing body in the academic field and the Governing Commission and the Board of Directors are the collegiate governing bodies. The Senate is the academic participation body that integrates the members of the university community of the ESUPT, as well as the faculties by degree, in the field of each of the degrees. There are Advisory Councils for qualifications made up of relevant people and entities in their respective fields. The organisation and operation of the center are set out in the regulations approved by UPF.
It is the body with representation of the Management of the Tecnocampus that approves norms, regulations, budgets and other proposals.
It is the body that, at the level of the centre, exercises the maximum academic functions of internal regulations, management control and expression of the position and aspirations of the School. Teachers and students are represented.
It is the body delegated by the Senate that oversees the operation of the centre's teaching. This is the Commission responsible for managing, coordinating and monitoring the quality management system of the Centre's degrees. It also has student representation.
It is an advisory body and to encourage the debate constituted by all the teachers of the school and a representation of the students of each degree.
