To help repair the economic and social damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the European Commission, the European Parliament and EU leaders have agreed on a recovery plan that will lead the way out of the crisis and lay the groundwork for a modern and more sustainable Europe.

Industrial Doctorates

Object: Competitive grants for the development of Industrial Doctorate projects (hereinafter, DI projects) in any field of knowledge and in any business sector. The research project must be developed within the strategic framework of a company or entity in the business environment and, at the same time, within a research group of a research organization, in which the doctoral student or doctoral student must carry out her research training, with the aim of doing a doctoral thesis.

Entity: Government of Catalonia

Quantity and conditions:

The academic community can benefit from this call for research bodies, in particular public and private universities in the university system of Catalonia, as well as research centers, hospital foundations and technology centers based in Catalonia.

The following entities may benefit from this call from the business environment, as long as they are not research bodies or bodies dependent on them:

Prowered Ideas for Business: Good to help protect intellectual property

Object: This bonus grant is intended to help SMEs in the field of intellectual property, in order to prevent their unique ideas, products or services from being copied without authorization. Contains a diverse catalog of assets, such as trademarks, designs, patents, corporate identities, products, services and processes.

Body: EU Intellectual Property Office

Amount and conditions:.

  • 90% for pre-diagnosis services of intellectual property (IP Scan).
  • 75% in application fees for trademarks, designs or fees, fees for additional classes and fees for examination, registration, publication and postponement of publication both nationally and regionally and at EU level.

Object: subsidize  the launch of new business projects, which require the use of technologies or knowledge developed from research activity and on which the business strategy is based on the development of technology.

Amount and conditions: Grants up to 70% of the action budget, with a maximum grant amount of 250.000 euros per beneficiary. Minimum eligible budget: 175.000 euros.

Science and Innovation Missions Program

Object: Through these missions, this program seeks to address challenges such as the fight against climate change, the promotion of the energy transition, the support for the circular economy or the development of technologies that contribute to the next industrial revolution.

"SME" Mission Category:

  • Grouping made up of between 3 and 6 companies, at least two autonomous. All must be SMEs, led by a Medium Company. The members of the grouping must sign an internal agreement that regulates its operation.
  • Subsidy up to the maximum intensity limits: 65% Large Company, 75% Medium Company and 80% Small Company.
  • The individualized amount of aid will be determined based on the actual eligible cost of the project, the characteristics of the beneficiary and the budgetary availability.

Object: This program will support the development of collaborative projects between SMEs and startups that serve to drive business growth. This is a help that it drives open innovation and is aimed at SMEs that want to collaborate with startups to solve a technological challenge or the development of an innovative digitization project or linked to the green economy and sustainability.

Emerging technologies include: artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, mass data and information processing technologies, high-performance computing, cloud computing, blockchain, natural language processing, cybersecurity , biometrics and digital identity, biotech and medical devices, robotics, quantum computing, advanced data analytics / edge computing, blockchain technology, virtual and augmented reality, 3D printing and additive manufacturing, green algorithms or nanotechnology. 

The types of action may be any of the following:

a) Projects for the generation of innovation through the resolution of technological challenges of companies, sectors, cities and / or missions that serve to break social, generational and territorial gaps. 

b) Advisory actions on innovation in the field of technology, with the aim of responding to challenges posed to companies seeking open innovation through solutions based on disruptive technologies.

c) Actions aimed at acquiring new knowledge and skills that may be useful to develop new products, processes or services, or allow to significantly improve existing ones. d) Actions of demonstration, adaptation and personalization of various technologies, testing and experimentation with digital technologies, transfer of knowledge and technology, validation tests, proof of concept, production of prototypes, etc.

Object: Loan with guarantee for Catalan SMEs and self-employed that make investments or for working capital needs. The ICF makes the loan and Guarantees of Catalonia grants the endorsement.

ICF - Social and cooperative economy

Object: Loans for companies in the social and cooperative economy to finance investments, working capital needs, advances in contracts with the public sector and capitalizations of the companies themselves.

Amount and conditions:

  • Investment loans: up to 80% of the investment, with a minimum of 30.000 euros and a maximum of 1 million euros.
  • Working capital loans: minimum 30.000 euros and maximum 100.000 euros.
  • Loans for advances on contracts with the public sector: Minimum 30.000 euros and maximum 300.000 euros.
  • Capitalization loans: minimum 10.000 euros and maximum 60.000 euros per beneficiary of the loan.

The ICF studies the viability of the project from a financial point of view, then formalises and manages the loan. The operations approved through this line will have the assumption of 80% of the credit risk of the operation by the Department of Labour, Social Affairs and Families.

ICF Tourism Loans

Object: Encourage the transformation and modernisation of the tourism sector. Line of loans to finance facilities modernisation projects that improve accessibility, energy efficiency, competitiveness and drive the digital transition in the sector.

ICF-IFEM participatory loans. Corporate entrepreneurship

Object: ICF manages through IFEM the support for the creation and development of innovative start-ups through venture capital programs and co-investment with private investors through participatory loans.

Amount and conditions: The expenses associated with the development of the business plan that is the subject of the application will be financed. A corporate entrepreneurship project is understood to be one in which a corporate investor enters the capital of a small company to develop a business plan that responds to a need for innovation and/or growth of the corporate investor. .

  • Between € 50.000 and € 200.000 per project, subject to investment in the form of capital by private investors.
  • Term: up to 5 years.
  • Amortization: only at maturity.
  • Fixed interest: the maximum between 4% and the rate that would result from the application of the Communication from the European Commission on the revision of the method for setting the reference and updating rate (OJ C 14, 19.1.08). Settlements will be quarterly.
  • Variable interest: will be determined based on the evolution of the business plan (up to a maximum of 15% including the fixed).

FACING THE FALLOUT FROM COVID

Extraordinary aid in the field of the activities of the catering sector which have been financially affected by COVID-19

Object: The measure aims to contribute to the competitiveness of companies and the maintenance of business in the face of the decrease in turnover caused by the recent restrictions decreed to mitigate the effects of the pandemic.

Amount and conditions:

Beneficiaries:

1.            Self-employed professionals and companies that provide catering activities, registered in the census of the tax on economic activities. For the purposes of these bases, companies that provide catering activities are understood to be bars, restaurants and cafes, including those that provide their activity within a collective establishment such as shopping malls or municipal markets.

2.            Beneficiaries of this aid are excluded companies that are more than 50% owned by public capital and foundations.

3.            The grant awarded is for a maximum amount and will consist of a single contribution per beneficiary.  The aid will be between 1.000 and 15.000 euros, depending on the number of workers:

             1.000 euros for freelancers and micro-enterprises (up to 9 workers)

             5.000 euros for small businesses (from 10 to 49 workers)

             15.000 euros for companies with 50 or more employees.
