Between the 14th of June and the 26th of July, the study was carried out on the healthy habits and the current state of physical and mental fitness of the elderly within the framework of the Territorial Specialization and Competitiveness Project (PECT ) of Mataró-Maresme: innovation ecosystem for caring cities. It is a project led by the research group in Physical Activity, Performance and Health (AFIRS) of the TecnoCampus and a multidisciplinary team of professionals in the field of health and physical activity.

The activity was carried out in several civic centers in the city of Mataró and gathered around 191 volunteers over the age of 60 from the Maresme region. Individual physical abilities were assessed using questionnaires and physical tests (balance, mobility, cardiorespiratory fitness, among others) and an individualized report of the results was provided.

The PECT project plans to continue its activity and based on the conclusions of the study carried out, and offer the possibility to voluntary elderly people to participate in programs and activities designed to improve healthy habits that will take place during the last quarter of 2022. The PECT project is part of the Research and Innovation strategy for Smart Specialization (RIS3CAT) and is co-financed by the FEDER Operative Program of Catalonia 2014-2020.
