  • E2_Idear, design, plan and make 2D animation short films and video games

  • E5_Design and make an audiovisual product (consisting of still or moving images), taking into account both its technical and artistic aspects, in all its components

  • E7_Postproduce video using the basic tools of audiovisual editing programs (titling, color and exposure retouching, speeds, masks ...) and how to insert them into the editing process by adding digital effects

Description


The subject has a dual purpose. On the one hand it makes a first approach to the structure of the media briefly explaining its importance at the social, political, economic and cultural level. It also addresses the organization, regulation and operation of the different media in the case of Catalonia and Spain. On the other hand, it addresses the introduction to the audiovisual world, based on the operation of a video camera, the production of a short film and its subsequent edition. 

Learning outcomes


At the end of the course students must be able to:

Have a minimum knowledge of the structure and the audiovisual landscape in Spain and Catalonia.

 Identify fundamental concepts of audiovisual language.

Use a camcorder to the fullest.

Make a small digital video production according to a pre-established script.

Perform a basic video post-production that allows you to assess the understanding of the fundamental aspects of an audiovisual production with moving images.

Define a basic film project (literary adaptation, work team, economic study, ...)

Working methodology


Master classes for theoretical presentations.

Working groups of two students for the activities and producers for the short final.

first part:

1 Introduction: the study of the structure of the media

Communication. Characteristics of the media. The social, political, economic and cultural dimension of the media. Pressures affecting the media. 

 

2. Media and communication groups in Spain

The press. Television: public and private; DTT, pay TV. The radio. The main Spanish communication groups.

 

3. Media and communication groups in Catalonia

The press. Television: the CAC; the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation; local television. The radio. The main Catalan communication groups. 

 

part Two

4. Introduction to the audiovisual world 

Basic elements for making the short (literary script, technician, work plan, basic equipment, editing software).

 

5. Colour

Visual perception. Color and properties.

 

6. Video camera

Lens, exposure, formats, sensor, recording.

 

7. Realization and assembly

Plans, movements, axes, human team, continuity, rhythm.

 

8. Audio

Features, microphones, speakers, formats.

 

9. Clothing

General aspects on its planning, study and acquisition.

Learning activities


Get to know the audiovisual landscape in Spain and Catalonia, both public and private.

Video camera, knowledge of its operation.

Basic nonlinear editing: introduction to Adobe Premiere Pro software.

Non-linear editing plug-ins: Introduction to After Effects software.

Editing a TV ticket.

Making a short.

Evaluation system


A single exam with a weight of 50% of the final grade.

Four internships that together give 20% of the final grade (5% each internship). These practices are mandatory. Arriving late beyond 15 minutes is zero.        

Final production: 30% (of this, the final product weighs 15% and the documentation submitted another 15%). The presentation of the work is mandatory to be able to approve.

To pass the course it will be essential to have obtained a grade equal to or higher than 5. Those not presented are excluded from the recovery.
