Description


The subject of Water Sports I has a marked intensive theoretical-practical character, distributing its load to 50% between theoretical and practical contents so that the student is able to be supported in a solid theoretical base thus to be able to apply and to transfer this acquired knowledge to the practical context of a much more efficient and effective way.

It is a general subject with theoretical-practical knowledge that aims to introduce students to the nautical world both in sailing, with fixed and free equipment, and in other water sports such as kayaking or Padel surfing among others, providing a basic vision of this group of sports called nautical, working mainly on its technique following the didactic programming of the Catalan Sailing Federation.

The practical part of the subject will be taught in the facilities of the Nautical Clubs, as indicated in the schedule of the subject.

For the good development of the practices, each student will have to bring his own material, neoprene and covered shoes that can get wet, and in case of not having the basic material, the student will have at his disposal in the school of sails this material to be able to rent it for the whole subject.

This subject has methodological and digital resources to make possible its continuity in non-contact mode in the case of being necessary for reasons related to the Covid-19. In this way, the achievement of the same knowledge and skills that are specified in this teaching plan will be ensured. 

In addition, the social and environmental relevance of the gender perspective will be emphasized, through the course syllabus, as well as through information search activities and critical debates.

Learning outcomes


1. Identify the psychosocial and motor requirements of the skills of various sports and sports activities, knowing the technical-tactical elements that structure them and execute them basically.

2. To know the physical characteristics of the environment and the materials and safety utensils, in order to move freely in the environment, while preserving one's own safety and that of others.

Working methodology


The methodology of the subject will be carried out combining face-to-face classroom time, with autonomous work time, with the support of the virtual learning environment. The percentage of time the student spends is distributed as follows:

Both in the face-to-face sessions and in the autonomous work, the student will work individually and in work groups.

Each ECTS is equivalent to 25 hours of student dedication, considering the time invested in the total of the activities related to the face-to-face time and the time of autonomous work, that the professor of the subject guides, as well as the reading times, information search, connection to the Virtual Classroom, elaboration of works.

PRACTICES. Introduction to water sports

Introduction to Dinghy Sailing

  • Sailing, boat parts and sails. Navigation through (keep course) and turns forward. Neutral position and start boat. Hunting sails (flash point). Disassemble boat, order and cleaning.
  • Pairing. Cross navigation, neutral position and forward turns. Straight and soaked (position of sails for each course). Disassemble boat, order and cleaning.
  • Pairing. Practices of sailing of tightening and returning of soaking (ears of donkey). Disassemble boat, order and cleaning.
  • Pairing. Practice sailing tight and back and forth. Disassemble boat, order and cleaning.
  • Pairing. Navigation practices, completing a triangle buoy circuit (tight, long, through). Disassemble boat, order and cleaning.

Introduction to Adapted Sailing

Introduction to Kayaking

  • Boat and shovel parts. Types of shovel, embarkation and disembarkation from ramp.

  • Cross rowing to the beach. Boarding and disembarking on the beach. Dump and how to safely dump.
  • Free exercises, races, balance games on the kayak.

 

 Introduction to Windsurfing

  • Simulator and tasting. Assembly and disassembly of the material.
  • Forward turn, cross navigation.
  • Cross and turn navigation.
  • Tight and soaked courses
  • Sailing along and stumbling, back up tight.

 

Introduction to SUP

  • Types of tables: How to board and enter and leave port. Shovel: how to grab it, adjust it to the size. Type of palate: Long, short. Turns and braking.
  • Balance and control of the table.
  • Shovel and turn practices. Direction and speed control.
  • Cross to the beach. Boarding and disembarking on the beach.
  •  Complete a circuit between buoys.

Learning activities


The activities of the subject follow the system of continuous evaluation, that is to say, that throughout the term the professor raises several activities, that the students must solve and deliver. The work of each one of the activities allows to value to the student, the follow-up that does to the asignatura and the elements of improvement, from the comments and notes that the professor will do of the activities.

The proposed activities can be individual or in work groups. The teacher gives the instructions so that the students can elaborate and deliver them. All the activities proposed are designed so that students have a practical perspective on the topics that are developed throughout the ten weeks of the term.

Evaluation system


Qualification system (Royal Decree 1125/2003, of 5 September) that establishes the European system of credits and the system of qualifications to the university degrees of official character and validity in all the state territory:

0 - 4,9: Suspended

5,0 - 6,9: Approved

7,0 - 8,9: Notable

9,0 - 10: Excellent

 

The final grade of the student is the result of a continuous assessment and a final assessment. The pass of the subject is obtained with a grade equal to or higher than 5 points (out of 10 points) according to the following weighting table:

REQUIREMENTS TO PASS THE CONTINUOUS EVALUATION:

- Compulsory minimum attendance at practices of 80% and only absences justified by illness or injury certified by a doctor with their membership number will be accepted.

- Qualification of the individual activities must be at least 5 out of 10 possible points. Not recoverable.

- Qualification of the practices in group must be equal or upper to 5 on 10 possible points and assistance of 80%. Not recoverable.

 

IMPORTANT:

If the continuous assessment is not passed due to non-compliance with the necessary requirements described above, the student will fail the subject.

The total or partial copy in any of the learning activities will mean a "Not Presented" in the subject, without option to present in the proof of recovery and without prejudice of the opening of a file for this reason.

 

Recovery

Within the same course, there is the possibility of recovering skills not achieved during the course.

In accordance with current regulations, you can only opt for recovery, if the exam has been suspended. If the rating is Not presented, you will not be eligible for recovery.

Schedule and Guide to Activities.

All the activities will have specific dates that will be communicated to the student at the beginning of the subject through the Schedule.

The schedule and all content of the subject can be modified by force majeure due to events caused by the COVID.
