Kinesiology is the science that deals with the study of movement. Thus, this subject will focus on the study and qualitative analysis of the movement of the human body, associated with the practice of physical exercise and sport. To do this, it will be necessary to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the field of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics.

The aim of this subject is to introduce the CAFE student to the field of applied kinesiology, providing the knowledge required to understand the anatomy of joint structures and neuromuscular function, and their behavior and involvement during the movement of the human body. The learning and understanding of this knowledge will be obtained through a teaching process focused on the study of the basic foundations in kinesiology and joint physiology, as well as on the qualitative analysis of movement during the execution of analytical (simple) and global (complex) gestures.
For CAFE professionals, it is essential to know and describe in detail the analytical movements that occur at the joint level during the performance of exercises, both analytical and global, identifying and addressing those issues involved in the execution of the movement, and which are related to the different areas of application of the CAFE (education, research, health, leisure and sports performance).

This subject has methodological and digital resources to make possible its continuity in non-contact mode in the case of being necessary for reasons related to the Covid-19. In this way, the achievement of the same knowledge and skills that are specified in this teaching plan will be ensured.

Learning outcomes

During the course in Kinesiology of Physical Exercise, and after completing it, the CAFE student will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the following tasks:

  • Analyze the movements and interpret the participation of the joints and muscles involved, as well as the other factors that determine them.
  • Acquire criteria, skills and technological knowledge to develop the teaching-learning processes related to the practice of physical exercise and sport in any of the areas of application of the CAFE (education, research, health, leisure and sports performance).

Working methodology

The methodology of the subject will be carried out combining face-to-face periods of classroom, with periods of autonomous work with support of the virtual environment of learning. The percentage of time the student spends is distributed as follows:

Both in the face-to-face sessions and in the autonomous work, the student will work individually and in work groups.

Each ECTS is equivalent to 25 hours of student dedication, considering the time invested in the total of the activities related to the face-to-face time and the time of autonomous work, that the professor of the subject guides, as well as the reading times, information search, connection to the Virtual Classroom, elaboration of works.

NOTE: the contents corresponding to the study of the different joints or limbs, include arthrocinematic and osteocinematic analysis.

Learning activities

During the development of the teaching period included in this subject, theoretical sessions and practical sessions will be given, with different activities that must be solved and delivered by the students through the virtual classroom, thus carrying out a system of continuous evaluation.

The content presented by carrying out these activities will allow to assess the progress of the students with respect to the integration of the teaching content of the subject, as well as to supervise the follow-up that each student carries out on the subject. These tasks will be complemented by the appropriate corrections on the activities developed by the students

The activities that will be proposed during the continuous evaluation, will suppose the realization of work, so much individual as cooperative. The teacher will provide the necessary indications and / or instructions so that the students can understand, design, elaborate and carry out the delivery of their works autonomously.

The learning activities that will be developed throughout the term will be: a) individual questionnaires; b) deliveries of practices realized in small groups, being these of cooperative character; c) delivery of final cooperative work; d) final examination of the subject. The activities will be based on practical cases that will allow the application of the theoretical contents taught in a master class format.

Evaluation system

The evaluation of the subject will consist of a period of continuous evaluation (attendance to the practices, realization of questionnaire and collective activities), a partial examination (optional) and a final examination.

Continuous evaluation: will contribute 60% of the final mark of the subject. This section consists of two parts:

  • Continuous individual: this evaluation will include the weekly questionnaires, which will account for 10% of the final grade of the subject.
  • Continuous collective: it will account for 50% of the final grade. This part of the evaluation will be subdivided into two parts:
    • Delivery of practices carried out in the classroom: 20% final qualification of the subject.
    • Delivers collective final work: 30% of the final grade of the subject.

The continuous evaluation must be passed with a grade equal to or higher than 5/10 points.

Final exam: will contribute 40% of the final grade of the subject. The exam will be face-to-face and will consist of two types of questions:

  • A test-type section.
  • A section of open-ended questions for solving problems and / or questions. These must include the contents corresponding to the theoretical classes in the classroom and the practices, as well as the content published in the virtual classroom throughout the term.

The final exam must be passed with a grade equal to or higher than 5/10 in order to pass the subject (a lower grade will be a final grade of the subject below 5/10, and therefore, it will consist as suspended).

Requirements to pass the continuous assessment:

To pass the continuous assessment, the following requirements must be met:

  • In relation to the continuous evaluation of individual character will have to realize at least 70% of the individual questionnaires of the asignatura.
  • In relation to the continuous assessment of a collective nature: at least 70% of the internships carried out throughout the course must be delivered.
  • Attendance and mandatory minimum completion of practices and seminars of 70% of those proposed in the subject. If there is an absence from a practice or seminar, this must be justified by presenting the corresponding official document that grants validity to the justification of the incident in question. 


In accordance with current regulations, you can only take the exam in an extraordinary call if you have failed the "Final Exam" assessment activity. In the event that the student is qualified as Not Presented in the final exam, you will not be eligible for recovery.

The exam in extraordinary call includes all the contents taught (theory in the classroom, practices and seminars) and will be carried out during the recovery period.

The grading system used will be that set out in Royal Decree 1125/2003, of 5 September, which establishes the European credit system and the grading system for university degrees of an official nature and valid throughout the state, with the following scoring scale:

0 - 4,9: Suspension (SS)
5,0 - 6,9: Approved (AP)
7,0 - 8,9: Notable (NT)
9,0 - 10,0: Excellent (SB)

The total or partial copy in any of the learning activities will mean a "Not Presented" in the subject, without option to present in the proof of recovery and without prejudice of the opening of a file for this reason.
