The Maresme region, as well as the State as a whole, faces a great challenge: being one of the longest-lived territories in the world. The aging of the population by 2050 implies great social and economic challenges, as well as important business opportunities. In this year, it is estimated that a third of the population will be over 65 years of age and those over 80 will be 11,8% of the population.
The population's need for long-term care will grow in the coming years. Spain devotes 0,9% of GDP to long-term care, below OECD countries, where this expenditure represents 1,5%. These data highlight the need to design new innovative ways to provide solutions with a high technological component. The strategic framework of the initiative is aimed at developing the fourth pillar of the Welfare State, the economy of care, with the aim of developing new care systems, as well as new solutions, services and products that incorporate different elements based on technology.

The proposal is articulated in five axes:

1- Conceptualization it is necessary to generate a proper definition of the care economy. The literature includes a wide range of different definitions, with this first step the aim is to narrow down the conceptual framework and the scope that will integrate the Hub. This axis will also work on the validation of the experimental work methodology.

2- Identification it refers to the realization of the map of actors in the territory in order to be able to define the characteristics of the companies and agents of the care economy.

3- The Challenges its purpose is to identify future challenges in order to interpret the future of aging and people's care in terms of opportunities.

4- Collaboration it is the way of working and building networks that will be promoted from the HUB with the aim of generating synergies between different actors to build a robust and differentiated value chain in the Maresme.

5-Innovation it focuses on the creation of knowledge and new projects that arise from the initiatives of companies and entrepreneurs, with an important technological component.

In addition to the field of aging, the action will be taken over in a broad sense of activating the business ecosystem of the care economy, aimed at preserving autonomy and improving the quality of life in people with greater vulnerability (ageing, people with functional diversity, chronic diseases, mental health, minors in vulnerable situations, among others).
In this context, the need to set up the Innocare Hub at county level, where the conditions are created so that its agents can share knowledge, interests, technology, challenges and purposes, becomes a great development opportunity for the territory.
