Apply the necessary methods and procedures in their field to identify the most relevant health problems in a community. Analyze statistical data related to population studies, identifying possible causes of problems and health. Educate, facilitate and support the health and well-being of members of the community whose lives are affected by health problems, risk, suffering, illness, disability or death.

The subject Public Health is a compulsory subject of 5 ECTS framed in the subject of Public Health, Communication and Research in Health of the degree of nursing.
Public Health is the set of activities organized by public administrations, with the participation of society, to prevent disease as well as to protect, promote and restore the health of people, both individually and collectively. And through health, sectoral and transversal actions.
The subject Public Health focuses on content related to the basic elements that make up the public health system and national health systems, the evolution of models in Public Health and the promotion of strategies that have given way to the National Health Systems they manage current health services and, in the elements and strategies that determine their use to improve the health of the entire population with a health vision.
Additionally, the understanding of the different levels of care and the concepts of promotion, prevention and rehabilitation reinforce the student's knowledge of the structural aspects that make up Public Health and its determinants for nurses to act as health agents. .
The subject offers the opportunity to the student to develop his capacities and the competitions to offer an attention with global and integral vision that allows to take into account the needs of the person, the reality of the group to which it belongs, and the influence of its environment and context.
This subject has methodological and digital resources to make possible its continuity in non-contact mode in the case of being necessary for reasons related to the Covid-19. In this way, the achievement of the same knowledge and skills that are specified in this teaching plan is ensured.
The contents are developed in different topics that aim to provide a progressive learning of the theoretical framework of the discipline of public health.
Topic 1. Public Health and health policies
General concepts on Public Health. Definitions, models, objectives and functions of public health.
Topic 2. Health Systems
Health systems and the Spanish health system. Globalization of health. National and international bodies with competences in public health.
Topic 3. Health promotion
Determinants of health. Health promotion strategies. Community health.
Item 4. Disease prevention
Primary prevention (schedule of systematic vaccinations). Secondary prevention. Tertiary prevention.
Topic 5. Health protection
Food health (The role of nursing). Environmental health (The role of nursing). Sanitary waste control.
Topic 6. Epidemiological surveillance
Basic concepts and types of epidemiological surveillance.
The assessment system for the skills and learning outcomes of this subject includes different assessment activities for Subject 3 - Public Health, Communication and Research in Health:

A system of quantitative (from 0 to 10) and qualitative (suspended, approved, notable, excellent, honorary registration) is used according to RD 1125/2003.
The total or partial copy in any of the learning activities means a "Not Presented" in the subject, without option to present in the proof of recovery and without prejudice of the opening of a file for this reason.
According to UPF regulations, students who have the option of retrieving the subject are those who have obtained a “suspended” grade, which are the only ones that can be modified in the recovery process.
