Description

Health is a basic pillar of human development both individually and collectively and it is in developing countries where this becomes even more evident. In order to strengthen this pillar and respond to health needs in these countries it is necessary to understand what are the main health problems they have to deal with and know different strategies to respond to them, especially in those most critical circumstances such as natural disasters, epidemics and mass population displacements.

In addition, globalization and migratory movements favor the appearance and / or spread in our environment of diseases that we considered extinct or that had never existed in our environment or, as we have recently observed with COVID19, the appearance of new diseases that spread to pandemics.

For all this, this subject proposes an introduction to the world of International Cooperation and in particular to Humanitarian Action in order to learn about different strategies to respond to different health problems in the humanitarian field: acute malnutrition, epidemics (Cholera, Ebola , measles Malaria, COVID19) and non-communicable diseases among others; and a presentation of the main tropical diseases to which expatriate personnel on the ground are exposed and the imported tropical diseases present in our territory.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the participants will be able to:

- Identify the main elements of International Cooperation and in particular of Humanitarian Action

- Describe the main health problems present in humanitarian crises and the answer to these problems

- List the stages of project cycle management and detail the essential elements of each of them

- Explain the role of nursing in a humanitarian response

- Recognize the main tropical diseases present in the field and the prevention measures for each of them and the imported tropical diseases present in our territory.
