Description


This subject has methodological and digital resources to make possible its continuity in non-contact mode in the case of being necessary for reasons related to the Covid-19. In this way, the achievement of the same knowledge and skills that are specified in this teaching plan will be ensured.

Given the number of citizens of the metropolitan area of ​​Barcelona - Maresme who use English as a language of communication and the possibilities of mobility of health professionals within the European Union, have a solid knowledge base of English it is considered an important element in the training of a student of physiotherapy and physical activity and sports sciences.

This highly communicative course works on the skills needed for a health professional to communicate effectively in a health-related environment.

In addition, given the number of academic articles published in English within the area of ​​health sciences, the ability of undergraduate students to be able to read in English effectively has become essential.

Learning outcomes


The main objective of this course is:

  • Improve the student's ability to communicate in English and understand academic texts in a health context. The subject focuses on carrying out professional activities in English in the field of Physiotherapy and physical activity, with parallel attention to the relevant vocabulary and grammar.

Thus, the learning outcomes are as follows:

  • Acquires and masters the English language applied to the sciences of health and physical activity.
  • It incorporates English as a language for learning and disseminating scientific knowledge. Use in interprofessional communication.

Working methodology


The methodology of the course will be of a very practical nature. Each session will include a variety of activities designed to develop the main language strategies. The main objective of this subject will be the active use of English in a dynamic environment.

Activities

Communicate with patients, clients and other medical and healthcare professionals in English. Simulated interactions with patients and clients, activities with group dynamics, cases, multimedia material and other authentic and specialized material.
