Currently, there is a set of upper limb prostheses on the market, especially hand prostheses, that seek to improve the quality of life of the people who use them. Some of them have an aesthetic purpose or with the possibility of performing the action of the clamp linked to daily actions such as writing, cooking, dressing, etc. but these prostheses involve a high economic cost as well as a personalized design and a high technological level.
StrongArm proposes to solve both the cost of these current prostheses, looking for a functional one to carry out physical training in a much simpler way, as well as the adaptability of the prostheses. This purpose is sought through creating a technology within the reach of anyone, both in economic terms, easy to build and adaptable, as well as inclusive in the field of gender, age, anthropometry of the person in order not to generate social biases. This project seeks to generate positive long-term changes in society, the economy and the environment.
By improving the accessibility and functionality of prostheses, the project can contribute to a more inclusive and healthy society, while also offering economic opportunities and environmental benefits derived from the use of advanced assistive technologies. This advancement and accessibility can lead to an improvement in the quality of life, self-concept and security, social inclusion of people with physical disabilities, especially for those individuals who have suffered traumatic or occupational accidents due to which they have suffered the loss of a part of the limb. For these reasons, this project represents a route towards functional recovery and independence, assuming not only a physical but also a profound emotional and psychological benefit.
Specific objectives of the project:
The StrongArm project: Testing and Validation of a Low-Cost Prosthesis for Physical and Social Rehabilitation is funded by the Agency for the Management of University and Research Grants of the Department of Research and Universities of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Awarded through the call for proposals for the Knowledge Industry Program 2025. Seed Modality (A). for an amount of €20.000 in reference to the file: 2025 LLAV 00109.
