Description

Integrated Nursing III is a compulsory subject that is included in the Basic Nursing Sciences module. The subject of Integrated Nursing III is the first contact with the student's healthcare environment, where he will be able to put into practice what he has previously learned in subjects such as Integrated Nursing I and Integrated Nursing II.

It includes all those activities within the teaching-learning process aimed at acquiring skills in the care environment of professional practice. During its development, the student participates in clinical practice, as well as in group tutorials that guide him to reflect on the practice. On the other hand, with the different modalities of realization of activities of learning collects his experience of learning, realized in the clinical surroundings.

During its development, the student participates in clinical practice, as well as in group seminars that guide him to reflect on the practice.

There are three relevant figures in the monitoring and evaluation of students in their clinical stays: the follow-up tutor, the academic tutor and the clinical tutor. The tutors are responsible for ensuring the development of skills acquired by the student during clinical stays and their evaluation.

Additionally, in order to assess the technical skills acquired in Integrated Nursing I, Integrated Nursing II and Integrated Nursing III, a Structured Objective Assessment of Technical Skills (AOEHT) is carried out within the Health Simulation and Innovation Center of the ESCST. .

Important:

This subject has methodological and digital resources to make possible its continuity in non-contact mode in the case of being necessary for reasons related to the Covid-19.

The TecnoCampus will make available to teachers and students the digital tools needed to carry out the course, as well as guides and recommendations that facilitate adaptation to the non-contact mode.

Learning outcomes

  • LO 1. Develop attitudes and skills that favor the understanding of practical care situations.
  • LO 2. Develop cognitive, psychomotor, relational and communicative attitudes and skills.
  • LO 6. Develop cooperation and work skills with the different professionals who make up the interdisciplinary teams.
  • LO 7. Act in accordance with the ethical and legal principles that govern the practice of caring.

Working methodology

The teaching methodologies used in the subject are:

  • MD2. Seminars.
  • MD6. Face-to-face tutorials in groups or individually.
  • MD8. Clinical practices.
  • MD11. Self-employment.

Contents

The contents that are worked in Integrated III, are related to the following axes of knowledge:

  • Relationship between the care process and nursing methodology.
  • Stages and activities of nursing methodology.
  • Nursing taxonomies and their relationship in the care process.
  • Personal and interpersonal relationships.
  • Cultural diversity and professional practice.
  • The interview as a method of communication, evaluation and therapeutic instrument.
  • Understand health situations in their theoretical and practical dimension, framing it in the paradigm of complexity.
  • Determinants of health: personal factors, lifestyle, environment of care resources, ...

The subject is structured in: seminars that are worked in the classroom and clinical practices in the different institutions and centers with agreement with the ESCST. During the clinical practices, the knowledge that previously in Integrated Nursing I and Integrated II, have been worked as content of Simulation Laboratories (LBS) in the facilities of the Center for Simulation and Innovation in Health (CSIS) of the ESCST.

Learning activities

The following table shows the training activities and the methodology used in them. The aim of these activities is for the student to develop an active role in their learning process by encouraging collaborative learning and critical thinking in the face of situations common to the clinical practice of nursing professionals.

Learning activity: The group work is based on contents related to the subject. Group work helps to consolidate knowledge of the practice and will be defended in the last seminar of the subject.

Group or individual face-to-face tutorials: In Integrated Nursing III, group seminars are held with the aim of following up on the learning activities and the oral presentation of the group work during the last seminar of the subject. Seminars are configured as an ideal space to encourage reflective practice of the student learning process in practice environments.

It is very important that the student is alert to the information and notifications of the Notice board and news of the Lecture of the subject. In the Lecture room you will find the relevant documents for the correct development of the subject:

  • Student dossier Integrated Nursing III.
  • Dossier of nursing procedures for the subjects of Integrated Nursing I and Integrated Nursing II.
  • Regulations for External Internships in Healthcare Institutions for UPF students and the Regulations for external internships for students in the ESCST Degree in Nursing (Annex to the regulations for external internships for UPF students).
  • Guide to the final work.

Evaluation system

The assessment will be carried out through the assessment of competencies as agreed in the Bologna Plan. The weights of the evaluation are carried out in a manner consistent with the training and methodological teaching activities used in the subject:

Assessment

A quantitative (from 0 to 10) and qualitative rating system (suspended, approved, excellent, honors registration) will be used according to RD 1125/2003.

Individual follow-up: The individual follow-up of the student is developed in the health institutions with the accompaniment and support of a clinical tutor and a follow-up tutor, both of whom are nursing professionals who look after the improvement and the acquisition of skills by the student during his clinical practice.

The evaluation is carried out jointly taking into account the evolution of the student during the practical period.

Seminars: During the clinical stays, two seminars are held in person, synchronous or mixed online. The academic tutor facilitates the seminars in small groups of a maximum of 12 students.

Final work: Students during their clinical stays perform evaluable written work that they will have to defend during the last seminar.

Important information:

Attendance at external internships and seminars is mandatory and is subject to the "Regulations for External Internships in Healthcare Institutions for UPF Students" and the "Regulations for External Internships for Students of the Degree in Nursing at ESCST" approved on July 10, 2019.

It is necessary to pass the written work of the subject and the evaluation of the clinical tutor (individual follow-up) to be able to mediate:

  • Written work: In case of suspension the student opts for a second call in the recovery period.
  • Individual follow-up of the practice: In case of suspension the subject will be suspended and must be recovered during the months of June and July.
  • AOEHT evaluation activity: In case of suspension, the AOEHT will be likely to approve in the recovery period of the 3rd quarter.
  • Seminars: The evaluation of the seminars is not likely to recover.

In case of suspension of the subject, the note of the parts approved for recovery is saved and only the suspended part is evaluated.

Recovery: The recovery of the practical examination of simulation (LBS) of Integrated Nursing I and Integrated Nursing II, will realize in the specific scenario of these asignaturas of the AOEHT of Integrated Nursing III.

Registration requirements: It is recommended to have taken the subjects of Integrated Nursing I and Integrated Nursing II during the first and second term of the first academic year prior to Integrated Nursing III.

The total or partial copy in any of the learning activities will mean a "Not Presented" in the subject, without option to present in the proof of recovery and without prejudice of the opening of a file for this reason.
