This subject will normally be taught in Catalan, without prejudice to the fact that, in the event of an Erasmus/Sicue student, the first classes can be taught bilingual (Catalan/Castile). Students will take on the reading and study of documentation in English (independent work).

Description


The practice of physical activity is one of the main determinants of health. Currently, sedentary lifestyle is the fourth leading cause of death in the world and increases the risk of suffering from numerous chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, obesity and certain types of cancers. Nursing professionals have a key role to play in health promotion through physical activity counseling and counseling. The role of the nurse in the environment of sports medicine must be approached from a multidisciplinary perspective. It will be necessary to work together with various professionals that cover the various areas and factors that condition the practice of sport, whether it is aimed at sports performance (competitive) or health and maintaining an optimal quality of life. This course will address the general principles of the promotion of physical activity and the recommendations of a practice of physical activity and healthy eating, as well as the knowledge of the different strategies for its promotion. Students will also be introduced to the area of ​​knowledge of the functional assessment of the athlete, with special emphasis on the analysis of dietary and nutritional aspects and their body composition. Students will have the opportunity, if they so wish, to be accredited internationally by the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK).

This subject has methodological and digital resources to make possible its continuity in non-contact mode in the case of being necessary for reasons related to the Covid-19. In this way, the achievement of the same knowledge and skills that are specified in this teaching plan will be ensured.

Learning outcomes


Students, at the end of the course, must be able to:

1. Understand the concept of healthy physical activity and current recommendations.

2. Know the health benefits of physical activity.

3. Give healthy physical activity advice to different population groups.

4. To know the role of a nurse in the various fields of sport and physical activity.

5. Assess the body composition, somatotype and proportionality of the athlete.

6. Interpret basic ergospirometric variables in sport.

7. Give dietary and nutritional guidelines and recommendations in relation to sport and physical activity.

Working methodology


The training activities and methodology will encourage the active role of students in their learning and their interaction with classmates to work effectively as a team. The following are the activities carried out in relation to the methodology used:

Plenary sessions (2 ECTS): master classes; classes aimed at discussion and content clarification.

Seminars (2 ECTS): practical classes and group work for case studies; problem-based learning (PBL) work. Self-employment: readings, articles, recommended guides; study of the contents of the subject and preparation of the evaluation.

Individual works.

Written / oral group work.

Attendance and participation in plenary sessions and practical classes.

Evaluation system


Individual and group work (40%)

Practical examination of the anthropometric method (50%)

Attendance at practical classes (10%)

All parts of the assessment must be passed with a minimum grade of 5 points (out of 10). Both activities can be re-evaluated according to academic regulations.

The total or partial copy in any of the learning activities will mean a "Not Presented" in the subject, without option to present in the proof of recovery and without prejudice of the opening of a file for this reason
