Last September, the third edition of the International Conference of Physiotherapy in Oncology (ICPTO 2023) was held in Amsterdam

The event was a unique meeting point for professionals from all over the world to discuss the latest research and trends in the field of oncological physiotherapy, which open the doors to new knowledge that can improve the quality of life of cancer patients.

In this context, the teacher and coordinator of the Degree in Physiotherapy, Esther Moore, presented the preliminary results of the Aquafit study, powered by Adamed laboratories, which focuses on the comparison of therapeutic exercise performed on land with therapeutic exercise performed in water in breast cancer survivors. The preliminary results point towards significant changes in the improvement of the quality of life of these patients, with new therapeutic options. The final results of this study are expected to be published shortly.

At the same time, the teachers and researchers of the TecnoCampus Anabel Casanovas i Rachel Sebio have published the PREOPtimize study protocol in the Journal of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation. This study details the prehabilitation work in patients with breast cancer and is part of Anabel Casanovas' doctoral thesis. This work contributes significantly to the understanding of how physiotherapy can improve the preparation of patients before surgical interventions, with the aim of increasing their chances of success and minimizing their side effects. Both studies underline the essential role of physiotherapy in the prevention, treatment and recovery of patients with breast cancer.
