The Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany and TecnoCampus have taken an important step in their internationalization efforts by signing a Strategic Collaboration Agreement, the first of its kind for both institutions. The agreement builds on years of close collaboration and paves the way for a deeper and more comprehensive partnership in the areas of teaching, research and institutional development.

Both institutions share a strong commitment to application-oriented and competency-based education, as well as internationalization. Their academic strengths align in key disciplines such as business, management and entrepreneurship, computer science, media, audiovisual, video games, as well as engineering and health/medicine—fields that play a critical role in preparing graduates for an ever-changing professional world.

In recent years, the collaboration between the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences and TecnoCampus has already produced a variety of impactful initiatives. Beyond regular student exchanges, they have worked closely on teaching and project-based learning formats. One such format is the International Media Camp, taught jointly by Professor Stefan Kim, Professor Francisco José Pinel Cabello, Luca Saavedra Todd and Professor Marco Antonio Rodríguez. “By bringing together students from both universities to work in interdisciplinary groups, the International Media Camp encourages them to express the cultural characteristics of the two partner regions through media techniques. In this way, students also learn from each other and develop an understanding of the respective cultures of their home regions,” says Professor Stefan Kim.

Expansion of cooperation: teaching, research and institutional development

With the new strategic partnership agreement, both institutions are committed to further deepening their cooperation. Plans include: expanding virtual and hybrid mobility, exploring joint research opportunities (especially in areas where academic strengths align), as well as offering professional development and exchange opportunities for students, faculty, and staff.

The partnership agreement is a solid framework that will help streamline administrative processes and allow for the sharing of expertise and institutional innovation, actively supporting knowledge exchange at multiple levels. As a result, both institutions aspire to foster the emergence of synergies and new solutions that address the shared regional and global challenges of tomorrow's world.

Josep Lluís Checa López, general director of TecnoCampus, and Professor Vera Meister, vice president for Teaching and International Affairs at the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, underline the importance of the strategic partnership for both universities: “Joining this strategic partnership is a big step forward on our path to grow internationally. Working with TecnoCampus has already shown how much students and teachers can gain when we create and innovate together. With this agreement, we redouble our promise to build vibrant and future-ready spaces for learning, research and development,” says Professor Vera Meister. Josep Lluís Checa López adds: “The focus on applied sciences makes TecnoCampus a unique university center in Catalonia, with a strong commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation in all the degrees it offers. The alliance with the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences is a great opportunity in one of the key pillars of our 2027 Strategic Plan: internationalization. We are excited to share projects and methods in higher education, as well as to promote exchanges between our students.”

Professor Martin Wrobel, professor at the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences and visiting professor at TecnoCampus, highlights the potential of the strategic partnership to reach far beyond the two campuses: “Both the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences and the TecnoCampus are located in regions closely connected to leading startup hubs such as Berlin and Barcelona. This partnership strengthens our shared focus on innovation and entrepreneurship and opens up new opportunities for our students.”

International Cybersecurity Week

The partnership was signed yesterday at TecnoCampus, coinciding with the International Cybersecurity Week, which is jointly run by both institutions. After ten weeks of online seminars on applied cybersecurity, participating students meet in person in Mataró to compete in a five-day cybersecurity challenge. The challenge is designed to develop and test students' skills and to work with a new team under pressure.

Professor Michael Pilgermann, from the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, and Professor Pere Tuset Peiró, from TecnoCampus, who led the joint teaching project, highlighted the impact of these formats: “Bringing together students from different countries and disciplines—both virtually and in person—enriches their learning experiences in a profound way. This collaboration not only fosters new perspectives but also cultivates critical thinking and problem-solving skills, empowering students to tackle real-world challenges with confidence and creativity.”
