The Social Economy Chair of the TecnoCampus, present at the Summer University of Cooperativism

Professors Eloi Serrano and Miguel Guillén are participating in two round tables at these conferences organized by the Confederation of Cooperatives of Catalonia at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The two TecnoCampus researchers have also participated in the book “Sociedades laborales: 40 años de innovación social”, which has just been published by CIRIEC-Espanya.

The third edition of the Summer University of Cooperativism (UESCOOP) took place on July 2, 3 and 4 at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. These are days in which the aim is to delve deeper into the debates that will shape the future of cooperativism, consolidating alliances between the sector, the institutional and the university spheres.

Organized by the Confederation of Cooperatives of Catalonia, with funding from the General Directorate of Social and Solidarity Economy and Cooperativism, UESCOOP is a space for generating knowledge and critical thinking in the cooperative movement that this year is based on a program around major thematic areas such as economic democracy, ecosocial transition, innovation and technology, housing and care, culture and communities, and research and the academic world, among others. 

The motto of this year's edition was "People at the center, what's the point?", which raised a question to reinforce the collective contents that sustain the cooperative movement. Given the generalization of the discourse of "putting people at the center", UESCOOP has proposed critically reviewing the role that they must assume in social transformation, and doing so from cooperativism as a collective and emancipatory tool. 

260 people participated in the event over the three days it was held. The TecnoCampus Chair in Social Economy was present at UESCOOP, with the participation of professors Eloi Serrano and Miguel Guillén in two round tables. Guillén participated, on Wednesday, July 2, in the round table "Digital Culture: the impact of technology, algorithms and artificial intelligence on the Cultural Cooperative Economy", in which he shared a debate with Raquel Bonell (Quepo), Alejandra Gallardo (Platoniq) and Eloi Aymerich (FCTC-CulturaCoop). For his part, Serrano participated, on Thursday, July 3, in the round table "University and cooperativism: collaboration, innovation and research", in which he debated with Yolanda Montagut (University of Lleida), Hector Sala (UAB), Simona Cerri (Arqbag), Lluïsa Serrano (FCAC) and Raquel Ríos (2023 Postgraduate Final Project Award in Social and Solidarity Economy).

On the other hand, professors Eloi Serrano and Miguel Guillén have prepared a chapter of the book “Labor Societies: 40 years of social innovation”, which has just been published by CIRIEC-Spain on behalf of the Business Federation of Labor and Participatory Societies (Laborpar). The book was presented on June 26 at an event that took place in Murcia, Spanish Capital of the Social Economy 2025. This chapter is entitled “Labor Societies in Catalonia. The case of TUSGSAL”. The volume has been edited by CIRIEC-Spain, promoted by its new History working group, and has been prepared by a group of eight researchers and eight representatives of the labor society movement in Spain, coordinated by Manuel García Jiménez, professor of Labor Law and Social Security at the University of Córdoba, and Sebastián Reyna Fernández, vice president of CIRIEC-Spain and former director general of Cooperatives and Labor Societies of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. 

The book has been financed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy and by Laborpar. The presentation ceremony was also attended by the president of CIRIEC-Spain, Adoración Mozas, and the president of the Scientific Commission of CIRIEC-Spain, Rafael Chaves.
