Professor Jordi Sánchez obtains cum laude in the defense of his doctoral thesis

On May 4, Jordi Sánchez Grau successfully defended his doctoral thesis at the San Jorge University of Zaragoza, obtaining the cum laude qualification. With this achievement, Sánchez Grau becomes the first alumni of the TecnoCampus Health Department to obtain a doctorate degree while simultaneously working as a teacher at the same center, a notable milestone in the history of the department.

The research, presented in the format of a compendium of articles, focuses on the analysis of performance in team sports practiced in a wheelchair, specifically adapted basketball and rugby. 

The works that make up the thesis examine in detail the initial propulsion and the sprint —two fundamental technical gestures in any team sport on the track—, studying both their performance and the relationship between the biomechanical parameters obtained and the functional classification of each athlete. 

This dual perspective, which combines movement analysis with the reality of the functional classification system (functional assessment in the form of a score in relation to your sporting ability), provides valuable tools for coaches, classifiers and physical trainers. 

The thesis was directed by professors Gerard Carmona Dalmases and Adrián Garcia-Fresneda, both members of the TecnoCampus Health Department. Their scientific orientation was decisive in ensuring that the research addressed wheelchair sports performance from a rigorous and applied perspective, connecting ecological tests with real sports practice in a competitive context.
