The event, organized by the Chair of Social Economy of Tecnocampus and the Mataró City Council with the support of the Barcelona Provincial Council, was attended by different agents from the social economy and municipal public administration.

On Wednesday, December 17, the 6th Social Economy Companies Meeting was held at TecnoCampus, dedicated to the present and future challenges of the social economy in strategic and responsible public procurement. The event is an initiative of the TecnoCampus Chair of Social Economy and the Mataró City Council, with the support of the Barcelona Provincial Council.

Miguel Guillén, coordinator of the Chair, was in charge of opening the meeting, highlighting the role that social economy entities can play in strategic and responsible public procurement. In this sense, he recalled that the Chair is part, together with Facto Cooperativa, L'Escamot and the Ariadna Youth Association, of the Center for Studies for the Promotion of Strategic and Responsible Procurement of Catalonia (CEICERC), and that during its first year of life, different activities have been developed to promote strategic and responsible procurement in public administration, with training, courses and advice.

Then it was the turn of Sergi Morales, Second Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Employment and Business and Social Economy of the Mataró City Council, who pointed out the need to improve awareness on the part of the local administration towards strategic and responsible contracting, and highlighted the role of the Network of Municipalities for the Social and Solidarity Economy (XMESS). He also explained that it is necessary for social economy entities and the administration to go hand in hand when generating a market, because it is necessary to increase the turnover of this type of company. Sergi Morales recalled that during the year 2026 Mataró will be the Spanish capital of the social economy, a very important and exciting challenge that will represent an opportunity for entities in the territory and for the city.

Then, the territorial actions that have been developed during the last year by the aforementioned CEICERC were presented. Representing this center, Albert Papell and Laura Martínez spoke, reviewing the different activities that have taken place in various parts of the Catalan territory during the last months. Papell insisted on the need to increase the weight of the social economy in public procurement, since we are talking about a large market of around 9.000 million euros per year in Catalonia. For her part, Laura Martínez referred to actions such as the presentation of the Analysis of public procurement in Catalonia and its impact on the social economy, the four intercooperation days that have been organized, in addition to two courses around this topic.

On behalf of the Mataró City Council, the social economy technician Sílvia Lizana referred to different public policies that the municipal administration has been developing in recent years, such as the contract reserved for the management of the Cafè Nou, which is managed by the Maresme Foundation, or the different training and development actions of the social economy.

A round table discussion was then held with the main participation of Eva Noguera, founder and director of ESMediacio, Gestió Integral de Conflictes, an entity dedicated to the management of coexistence and conflicts, providing society and different communities with strategies and tools to improve relationships and coexistence through social and community intervention. Noguera explained the specific case of her entity when participating in public tenders over the past few years, and referred to specific cases of everyday difficulties that companies encounter when participating in administrative tenders. She insisted on the need to be able to identify difficulties and share them, and also on the opportunity that intercooperation and alliance between entities represent, particularly when bidding.
