Mataró and the TecnoCampus become for one day the epicenter of European basketball with the 3rd edition of the EPIC

The Euroleague Players Association (ELPA, Euroleague Players Association in English) celebrated this Friday, May 10, the 3rd edition of EPIC, the International Sports Performance Congress (ELPA Performance International Congress, in English) which this year takes place at TecnoCampus. It is the most important meeting that takes place in the specific area of ​​basketball in all of Europe and, at the same time, one of the most important in the Old Continent in terms of sports performance in general.

According to the Managing Director of the Association, Bostjan Nachbar, "there are many elements that influence an athlete's career such as physical preparation, nutrition, rehabilitation, recovery, sports psychology or traumatology. EPIC will d 'this: put all these pieces together so that athletes can do well."

Once the Final Four in Berlin has been decided, continental basketball is now focusing its attention on the health of the players. The saturation of the calendar has caused the concern among sports professionals to be very high and that more and more emphasis is placed on what can be done to improve the quality of life of the players. And more, in a course that began with the World Cup dispute in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia and will end with a Pre-Olympic and the Games in Paris. 

The conclusions will be analyzed by the Committee of Experts of the same Players Association. In total, they are14 presentations with the European vanguard of sports performance in the world of basketball. At the TecnoCampus de Mataró, representatives of the Euroleague, the NBA Players' Union, Barça, Efes Istanbul, Olímpia de Milan or Baskonia are taking part. The academic world has not been left out either andEPIC will have the presence of teachers from the University of Zagreb, the INEFC, the UTAD of Portugal or from TecnoCampus itself.  Specifically, TecnoCampus will intervene Mar Rovira i Victor Illera, teachers linked to the Physical Activity and Sport Sciences degree, which demonstrates the degree's strong link with professional sport.

"The idea is to present the latest trends in sports performance and bring them closer to all those people who may not have access to them," emphasizes Nachbar. There are around 400 registered on-site and online attendees. Mataró takes over from last year's edition in Césena (Italy). According to Nachbar, "it makes all the sense in the world for us to come here. Catalonia is the land of basketball. There are more than 400 clubs and they are everywhere. Both the City Council and the TecnoCampus have welcomed us with the open arms and we are very happy to be here." The mayor of Mataró, David Bote, on Thursday evening offered a reception to the organizers of the Congress in one of the most emblematic buildings of the city, the Nau Gaudí.
