Trained at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya as a telecommunications engineer, he obtained his doctorate at the same university and became a teacher at the then-named Escola Universitària Politècnica de Mataró. He started teaching there in 1995, and from 2001 to 2006 he was head of department. Subsequently, he was general secretary, director of technology transfer and responsible for strategy and operations of the TecnoCampus Foundation in several periods. Janer was a key figure in the first steps of the Foundation, the body created to launch the park, inaugurated in 2010.

Much appreciated by his students and with a strong teaching vocation, he combined classes and research with the various management positions he held at the TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme Foundation, from where he played an important role in the definition of the project university that would be launched in 2010, with the unification of the two university schools that then existed in Mataró.
