Last April 12, the doctoral thesis defense ceremony of Eloi Serrano, director of the Department of Social Economy and professor in the Department of Business, entitled "The contribution of the social economy to sustainability (a methodological review for economic analysis)", within the Doctorate Program in Applied Economics. 

This thesis, directed by professor Carles Manera, obtained the qualification of excellent cum laude. The court was presided over by Dr. Rafael Chaves (University of Valencia), with Dr. Lluís Carreras (Rovira i Virgili University) and with Dr. Marc Prat (University of Barcelona) acting as secretary. This is the second doctoral thesis of Eloi Serrano, PhD in Economic History from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2012. Addresses the role of the social economy in sustainable development.

The thesis, articulated by a compendium of articles, includes a chapter focused on the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) by Catalan industrial cooperatives; a comparative study in the distribution of income from capital and labor between cooperatives and capitalist-based companies; and a third section on a case study to investigate the factors of degeneration in large labor societies. 

The thesis also includes two chapters of a methodological nature to delve into new techniques for measuring the financial year, both at a business and macroeconomic level; the intention of these two chapters is to make a contribution oriented towards a holistic, interdisciplinary vision, to build indicators that help expand the analysis on sustainability.
