La Conference on local tourism planning was held yesterday morning in Barcelona with good attendance results, as it brought together 145 people including technicians, political leaders and students of the Degree in Tourism and Leisure Management. Coordinated by the professor of the University School of the Maresme Albert Blasco, this day has been held since 2003 and is consolidated as a forum for debate and training for professionals in the sector. The president of the TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme Foundation, Alice Romero, the Magda Castro, by the School of Public Administration of Catalonia, opened the day emphasizing that this joint initiative responds to the needs of professionals in the sector.

Several presentations were held throughout the day. The keynote address was given by Joan Torrella, director of territorial promotion and tourism of Barcelona City Council. Torrella explained the tourism plan that the City Council of Barcelona has designed to meet the challenges posed by this activity in terms such as coexistence between the citizen and the tourist, with proposals such as taxing overnight stays in the city to finance both the promotion of tourism and activities aimed at making it more sustainable.
