What are you looking for?
The Talent Forum of the Degree in Video Game Design and Production, organized by the Careers Service and the degree coordination, brought together four leading companies in the sector, where they presented their vision to an audience made up of students who will graduate in the coming months. There was a consensus that the search for talent is continuous, because the maturity of the sector after the post-pandemic boom implies that new and very original products must be launched on the market.
Company representatives have indicated that university students have a foundation, criteria and a capacity for critical analysis that constitute a basis from which each professional can specialize, continue learning throughout life and build their own profile.
When looking for new profiles to incorporate, they have highlighted that they are looking for young people with communication skills, resilience and, above all, passion for work. In this sense, they have pointed out the need to build a portfolio already during their student years, designing video games even if they are small. This will give them visibility when looking for work in their studies, which also value having profiles on networks specialized in job search.
Regarding the situation of the industry, it was highlighted that, despite the difficulties after the boom of the Covid-19 pandemic, there are currently a hundred video game studios in Barcelona, which places the city as the epicenter of production at a state level.
Finally, regarding the use of AI, those responsible for the studies have urged that it be used with a critical perspective, without it being the epicenter of one's own way of working, which must be based on creativity and originality.
The participants on behalf of the companies in the Forum were: Jorge Cabezas, director of Larian Studios Barcelona; Nestor Pequeño, Head of Operations at Scopely; Daniel Candil, head of the art department at THQ Nordic Alkimia Interactive and TecnoCampus teacher; Marc Galdo, associate producer of Tilting Point and TecnoCampus alumni; and Hadrian Semroud, Design Director at Madbox.
