The second-year students of the Degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CAFE) have had the opportunity to participate in a masterful practical session at the hands of two great leaders in the physical preparation of sports teams high performance: David Martín and Jairo Vázquez.
The activity took place within the framework of the subject Team Sports I, where both experts shared their knowledge and experiences with future sports professionals. David Martín, currently coordinator of the Performance Areas and physical trainer of the first team of the Real Club Deportiu Espanyol of Barcelona, has extensive teaching experience as a teacher in the Official Master's in Sports Performance: Technology and High Level (RETAN) and the Professional Master in Football at the INEFC in Barcelona. In addition, he belongs to the Motor Action Research Group (GIAM), which allows him to combine his professional activity with research in the field of sports performance.
For his part, Jairo Vázquez, with 14 years of experience at Futbol Club Barcelona, has developed a specialization in optimizing the physical performance of elite basketball players. His approach combines the innovative use of microtechnology and rotational resistance devices (Flywheel), customizing training programs to ensure maximum performance and optimal recovery for each athlete. His extensive experience includes a preventative approach to minimizing the risk of injury and monitoring training loads, fundamental aspects of his methodology.
During the session, the two physical trainers shared advanced training techniques and monitoring methods, highlighting the importance of specificity in physical preparation for team sports. In addition, they provided students with a real-world, applied perspective of planning and developing sessions in high-performance environments. After the master's session, the students will have to put into practice the concepts learned by carrying out an integrated Physical Preparation session as group work for the subject.
This activity aims to consolidate knowledge and provide future professionals with practical tools that they can apply in their professional practice. The visit of David Martín and Jairo Vázquez has been a very beneficial experience for the students, allowing them to get closer to the demands and particularities of working with elite athletes, as well as inspiring the next generation of professionals in the science of sport and physical performance.
