Verkami.com, the portal where the public finances the projects of their favorite artists

This year 2011 has begun with a new Internet portal, and a new entrepreneurial project: the portal Verkami.com, a business project located in the TecnoCampus Incubator.

Verkami is based on the micro-patronage, an innovative system for directly relating audience and artist.

The method, successfully tested by kickstarter.com in the United States, offers artists a viable alternative in times of crisis, and provides minority cultural productions with an unprecedented path to reach the public.
Among the first projects to be launched from the platform are The Cosmonaut, the first film made with micro-patronage; a Tanzanian dance company, sponsored by Matthew Tree; a solidarity bicycle trip around the world; a documentary commissioned by the Amazon Indians; and the Museum of Ideas and Inventions of Barcelona.
