Joan Gonzàlez, filmmaker and founder of DocsBarcelona, gave the inaugural lecture for the 2025-2026 academic year of the Degree in Audiovisual Media on November 12.
Joan Gonzalez, filmmaker and, among many other projects, founder of DocsBarcelona, the distribution network El Documental del Mes and Nextus, the educational platform based on documentaries. Joan Gonzàlez was part of the founding team of Televisió de Catalunya and iconic programs such as 30 minuts.
Gonzàlez has produced more than 150 documentaries, some of which have won awards at major international festivals such as the Berlinale or Sundance. The conference, entitled “Filming reality. Clips in the time of clicks”, was given in the TecnoCampus Auditorium. Joan Gonzàlez, with a long career in the television and documentary world, explained that when faced with the challenge of starting a documentary project, motivation, looking for relevant stories, research and the intention behind it are essential. Ultimately, according to his words, creativity must be at the service of reality.
Throughout the conference, Joan Gonzàlez illustrated his explanations with different examples of contemporary documentaries. At the end, the students of the Degree in Audiovisual Media had the opportunity to ask the lecturer numerous questions, who stressed that it was important to never lose curiosity.
The inaugural conference of the course is an event aimed at all students and professors of the Degree in Audiovisual Media, and aims to share the experience and knowledge of first-rate professionals in the field of audiovisual media.
