Description of the project

Within the project "Specialization and Territorial Competitiveness Project of Mataró Maresme - Reimagine Textile", in which TecnoCampus leads the operation "Impulse to talent, entrepreneurship and the incubation of projects linked to textile design and innovation", the textile is identified as a clear opportunity to capitalize on the historical strength of the sector in the region and in Catalonia, through the incorporation of new technologies applied to fabrics, and revaluing the sector through the transfer of technological knowledge, training, 'collaborative economy and the promotion of entrepreneurship and internationalisation.

The textile industry of Mataró and Maresme is the first industry in the territory. It represents 15% of the GDP and employs hundreds of workers, being one of the first territories in Catalonia in this industry, where companies from the entire value chain are concentrated (fabrics, dyeing, clothing, printing, accessories, services...), traditionally specialized in the circular stitch genre. From university and entrepreneurship, new ways of doing and understanding emerge that promote changes in society. The TecnoCampus, a pioneering ecosystem in Catalonia with a triple helix model (university-company-administration) is committed to promoting these new ways of understanding the textile of the future and generates wealth in the territory.

From the Reimagine Textile center, the same methodology and experience is applied to promote projects linked to textile design and innovation and make the Maresme a benchmark. Also promote the generation of knowledge and talent in textiles at university level and encourage young people from secondary education in technological vocations and entrepreneurial skills applied to the textile sector. Specifically, we want to consolidate the work done with the creation and promotion of an incubator for business projects and acceleration programs for start-ups of: textile design projects, technical use fabrics, small productive units in valuable textiles added; innovative projects in textile technology and textile projects based on sustainability and socially responsible.

The "Specialization and Territorial Competitiveness Project of Mataró Maresme" (001-P-000942) of the Mataró City Council, has a budget of 1.903.715,23 euros. The amount of the operation "Reimagine entrepreneurship and talent: Impulse to talent, entrepreneurship and the incubation of projects linked to design and textile innovation" (GO03-003439) of the TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme Foundation is 493.229,67 euros

This project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Funds of the European Union within the framework of the FEDER Operative Program of Catalonia 2014-2020 with a grant of €246.614,83 and by the Diputació de Barcelona within the framework of the Local Government Network Plan 2016 -2019 with a grant of €123.307,41
