There is increasing scientific evidence to support the prescription of therapeutic physical activity for the prevention and treatment of various diseases, especially of non-communicable origin. The benefits of exercise are many and cover all systems including cardiovascular, endocrine, respiratory, musculoskeletal and neurological, as well as improving other aspects of daily life of patients such as sleep quality, mood and quality of life in general.
Despite these benefits, prescribing therapeutic physical activity is still a pending subject for a variety of reasons including lack of resources, misinformation, and physical and psychological barriers for patients. In this course we will address the general aspects of how to prescribe therapeutic physical activity in different diseases and special clinical populations, from how to assess physical abilities to identify deficiencies and alterations to how to prescribe the exercise in different types of patients taking into account their specific needs and possible precautions and / or recommendations. Aspects related to the change in behavior necessary to improve adherence and maintenance of the benefits obtained with the practice of physical activity will also be addressed.
- RA29. Analyze the effects produced by the interventions. It evaluates benefits and risks and establishes an intervention criterion based on the priorities and effects pursued.
- RA22. Establishes the intervention protocol based on the joint negotiation between therapist and patient.
- RA31. Assess the patient's physical and mental condition. It determines the level of security, dysfunctions, disabilities and limitations in both the individual and social spheres.
- RA32. Apply technologies for patient assessment. It incorporates new measuring instruments that facilitate the objectification of interventions. Participates in the validation of assessment tools for incorporation into clinical practice.
- RA52. Interact with other health and physical activity professionals to base an intervention plan based on the specific clinical diagnoses of each of the professions.
- RA27. Interacts with medical professionals to gain therapeutic efficacy. Set joint intervention goals.

1. Evaluation methods for prescribing therapeutic physical activity
2. Prescription of therapeutic physical activity in special populations
3. Practical considerations for approaching the patient from therapeutic physical activity

To pass the course it is mandatory to attend at least 80% of the practical classes (excused absences are included 20% of absences) and obtain a rating of 5/10 in the theory exam.
