Description


Given the number of citizens of the metropolitan area of ​​Barcelona - Maresme who use English as a language of communication and the possibilities of mobility of health professionals within the European Union, have a solid knowledge base of English it is considered an important element in the training of a student of physiotherapy and physical activity and sports sciences.

This highly communicative course works on the skills needed for a health professional to communicate effectively in a health-related environment.

In addition, given the number of academic articles published in English within the area of ​​health sciences, the ability of undergraduate students to be able to read in English effectively has become essential.

Learning outcomes


LO 44: Acquire and master the English language applied to the health and physical activity sciences.

LO 49: Incorporate English as a language for learning and disseminating scientific knowledge. Use in interprofessional communication.

Working methodology


The methodology of the course will be of a very practical nature. Each session will include a variety of activities designed to develop the main language strategies. The main objective of this subject will be the active use of English in a dynamic environment.

Activities

Communicate with patients, clients and other medical and healthcare professionals in English. Simulated interactions with patients and clients, activities with group dynamics, cases, multimedia material and other authentic and specialized material.

 

 Preparation of material for plenary sessions and seminars. Follow-up activities on topics worked on in the seminars

Two-part exam:

Part A: Listening comprehension

It consists of a hearing of a real contextualized situation. Notes should be taken and some questions answered.

Part B: Reading comprehension

A text from the health field is read. Some questions need to be answered.
