Descripción


Since mosto of the specialised technical literature students will come across is in English, this course AIMS at familiarising them with the typical structures, lexicon and style of Technical English. Students will learn to interpret and translate technical textos related to their subject matters and to Produce basic technical Writing. They will also Acquire basic writing skills in order to Produce formal and informal letters, application letters, electronic mails, and specialised reports.

A strong foco will also be given donde listening and speaking skills so that they may overcome everyday situations facilitating their integration in an English-speaking environment.

 

This module contains methodological and digital online resources in case online delivery is necessary due to Covidien-19. That way the achievement of the required knowledge and competencias gathered in this course content will be guaranteed.

In general terms, the subject contributivo to the learning outcomes (LO) specific of the subject matter it belong to (English): At end of the course, students must be able to:

  • (LO1) Identify, intérprete, and Produce technical Writings according to the features of technical register
  • (LO2) Translate into Catalán oro Spanish authentic technical literature selected from bibliography sources related to the subject-matter
  • (LO3) Understand written technical reports and answer comprehension questions sobre them. Learn the technical vocabulary típico of the subject-matter
  • (LO4) Produce Writings and technical reports using formal académico register (formal letters to make an order, a claim, ask for information, give information, etc., electronic mails, summaries, descriptions of technical materiales and processes and project reports) 
  • (LO5) Communicate efficiently in English in some profesional situations
  • (LO6) Make an effective oral presentation donde topic related to the subject-matter
  • (LO7) Understand the importance of English as a "lingua franca" commonly used in science, technology, university and profesional fields

 

 

Metodología de trabajo


Metodología de la enseñanza

 

The classroom work will be based on a Theoretical explanation of the syllabus items. These explanations will find practical support with the proposed exercises to be done both in the classroom and outside the classroom. These exercises will be done individualmente oro in small groups.

Due to Covidien-19, some of the group sesiones might be changed into a hybrid formato: contact lessons and online lessons (vía streaming). That way students may alternatively attend contact lessons, thus respecting the maximum amount of students por classroom established by social distancing measures. Este papel está ejerciendo con ejercicios en los puntos que se han estudiado en contentos 1, 2 y 3 de los módulos con utilidad de empasis en technical style, technical translation and reading comprehension.

Sistema de evaluación


Metodología de evaluación

Classroom exercises and homework exercises will be collected donde all the items of the course and a written test will be done according to the following assessment criteria:

  1. 20% of the final mark: exercises donde 's structures, relative clauses and shortening of relative clauses, participles in -ing and -ed, complejo nominal phrases and specific vocabulary
  2. 20% of the final mark: exercises donde writing skills: formal letters, emails, reportes, summaries, ...
  3. 30% of the final mark: exercises donde oral skills: listening comprehension, oral presentation and participation in discusiones and debates, class ATTENDANCE and participation. Está mandatorio a pasar esta actividad
  4. 30% of the final mark: written exam in which there will be exercises and tasks to demonstrate the acquisition of knowledge related to contentos 1, 2 and 3 of the syllabus. A minimum grade of 4 (out of 10) will be required for the final exam to be Considered for the average final mark

Studentes que FAIL or DO NOT deliver the Written Report assignment WILL NOT pass the subject.

If necessary, there will be a Resita EXAM puntos 1, 2, 3 y 5 de los asesoramiento (see above): 70% de los puntos finales. El remaining 30% corresponde a la actividad 4 above (Oral Skills). A la mínima grada de 4 (de 10) se requiere el requisito exacto del paso del sujeto.
