The "PECT-Mataró Maresme Research and Innovation Scientific Conference: Ecosystem of Caring Cities" took place last November 9 at TecnoCampus and gathered more than 350 people.

The event, which aimed to be a meeting point between researchers, students, companies and professionals in the field of care, served to present the research in the social and health area that the various groups have carried out of research within the framework of territorial specialization and competitiveness projects (PECT), as well as the research of other scientific groups in the territory. 

The mayor of Mataró and president of the TecnoCampus, David Bote, accompanied by the director of the Health Strategy and Innovation Area of ​​the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Ramon Maspons, opened the day and presented the CareCityLab, center that will be inaugurated at the beginning of 2024 and that will be a reference in the territory in research, innovation and transfer in the care, attention and improvement of the quality of life of groups with greater vulnerability and fragility, especially the elderly and people with disabilities. 

The day offered four keynote presentations by Marco Inzitari, executive director of Transformation of Intermediate Care, Department of Health and Catalan Health Service of the Generalitat of Catalonia and Director of Integrated Care and Research; Rafael Martínez Leal, Coordinator of the Intellectual Disability and Developmental Disorders Research Unit of the Villablanca Virgili Foundation; Mikel Izquierdo, Professor in the Department of Health Sciences of the Public University of Navarra and Alfred Batet, Director of the Hospital Foundation. 

In addition to the keynote presentations, 22 oral communications and two poster presentation sessions were presented, where 30 posters were presented. In addition to the research presentations, the event also held a technology fair where various associations and companies presented their services and innovations, an interaction workshop between research groups, a speed-dating workshop between students of secondary school and scientists, a doctoral theses competition, a round table on people treated and participants in research projects and a conference given by Jaume Padrós, President of the College of Doctors of Barcelona and by Joan Sala, President of the Academy of Medical and Health Sciences of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands on "The impact of research, innovation and citizen science in the prevention and treatment of diseases". 

The Conference is an initiative promoted by Mataró City Council, the TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme Foundation, the Maresme Health Consortium (CSdM), the Maresme Foundation, and the Hospital Foundation, within the framework of the PECT program, a program funded by the Generalitat de Catalunya that encompasses specialization and territorial competitiveness projects that, through innovation, facilitate economic transformation and the creation of sustainable economic activity and employment in a specific geographic area. The PECT-Mataró Maresme is organized around intelligent specialization in the social and health field.
